This gallery entry illustrates the unsteady flow structures generated by a heated flexible cantilever plate inside a square lid-driven cavity subjected to mixed convection. The animation shows the evolution of z-vorticity contours at successive time instants. The competing effects of buoyancy-driven and shear-driven convection produce complex vortex interactions around the oscillating plate. Depending on the thermal forcing and flow strength, the plate motion transitions from periodic flapping to irregular, quasi-periodic, and chaotic responses. These dynamics give rise to strikingly asymmetric and time-varying vortex patterns that highlight the rich interplay between heat transfer, shear flow, and structural flexibility.
