At an initial state, a latex balloon is half-filled with photo-luminiscent granules. While at rest, as the particles are being compressed by the membrane, they conform into a granular solid, and then they are suddenly released after a laser beam causes the membrane to rupture. Upon release, the granules are radially ejected, forming a crown of suspended particles that gradually separates from the vanishing granular solid left behind.
