Condensation plays a role in numerous industrial and daily-life processes, for example in steam cycles of power plants. When water condenses on a cooled surface, it can manifest in different forms, each carrying its own implications for heat transfer. Therefore, the understanding of each form is essential to maximise the efficiency of these processes, with the ultimate goal of massive energy savings. In this video, we demonstrate roaming condensation, in which coalescing microdroplets can roam across a superhydrophobic surface and introduce heat transfer benefits.
