Jet in Crossflow are an important flow field configuration and find themselves employed in several energy and transportation systems due to their excellent mixture fraction control. Their excellent mixing is due to the several vortical systems that develop when the jet is issued perpendicular to the crossflow. One such vortex systems are the shear layer vortices which are formed at the interface of the jet and crossflow fluid streams and are critical in the near field mixing of the jet and crossflow fluids and in the development of other vortex systems that are found in the far field. In this video, we look at the formation and evolution of the shear layer vortices using high speed Mie Scattering technique.
