Bubbles in an open fluid collapse symmetrically, and near a solid boundary they collapse towards the boundary. In this video we present a series of high-speed recordings of bubbles collapsing close to porous plates - thin steel plates with patterns of through-holes. From bubbles splitting in half along the boundary to strong jets through the holes, these movies reveal a fascinating range of bubble collapse dynamics.
