With a marine propeller operating in the half-submerged condition in mind, the flow physics of a blade entering the water surface is studied with a simplified setting of the water entry of a sphere moving along a circular path at a constant speed. The deformation of the free surface (splash and dome) and ventilated cavity under water were observed by a high-speed camera.
