A depth-averaged shallow water model is used to reproduce the flow in an open channel with bank lateral cavities. Under particular conditions, the shedding of vortices at the opening of the cavities is coupled with a standing gravity wave called seiche. The understanding of seiches is relevant to determine the hydro-morphological interactions between the main channel flow and the lateral cavities, and the consequences of these to mass and momentum transfer.
