The wake of a streamwise-oscillating cylinder maintains an imprint of the classical Von Kármán vortex street; however the motion of the cylinder gives rise to an intricate dance of vortices not seen in the stationary case. Flow visualization using fluorescent dye illuminates these intricacies, and provides an intuitive picture of the behaviour of wake vorticity.
