Have you ever wondered how freshwater from the river mixed with saltwater from the sea when you were standing by the coast? One way for the water to do that is through instabilities introduced by the shear between two fluid layers. This video presents basic principles, experiment footages, and simulation results of symmetric and asymmetric Holmboe instabilities.
