Pitching motion of hydrofoil (inspired from motion of the tail of fishes with hydrofoil cross section) can be proposed as an efficient thrust generation mechanism in aquatic propulsion systems. As seen in real fishes, flexibility of the tail helps to improve the propulsive performance. We present fluid dynamic movies of structurally flexible pitching hydrofoil in a free-stream flow to describe the effect of structural flexibility on propulsive performance.
