The video shows an optimized strategy of the velocity of two stirrers in a binary fluid. The adjoint, which provides the gradient information that allows us to improve our strategy, has chosen to generate vortices by oscillating left and right to facilitate mixing. This strategy is based on generating shed vortices that ultimately deform the interface between the binary fluids than the stirrers plunging into it. This counter-intuitive, and yet very effective approach, leads to a significant increase in the mixedness of the system.
