The entry of spherical projectiles into liquid pools creates a beautiful splash, as reported many times over the past century. In this video, we present recent observations of a particular instability of this phenomenon, which occurs just before the splash closes at the surface of the liquid. We call this the "buckling instability", whereby discrete ridges form along the splash wall, in a similar fashion to the wrapping of hard candies.
