A stably stratified fluid in a rectangular cavity may experience parametric instability and wave-breaking when the cavity is forced periodically in the vertical direction. The video visualizes the flow, using the isotherms and the normalized Q-criterion, over ten forcing periods during one such wave-breaking event.
