While filling a water globe at home, we observed a puzzling phenomenon of water periodically jumping out of the globe. Driven by curiosity, we built an experimental setup to study this 'Biphasic Helmholtz Instability' and developed a simple theoretical model to support our findings. Understanding how to control this instability may lead to efficient filling of bottles and other single-opening containers.
